In the beginning...

Hi.
So today I have officially become a blogger. Who would've thunk?

Well I am an Interior Design student and therefore I think about design literally (ok, not literally, but almost literally) 24/7 and I love it. So there is absolutely no question that I am in the right major. Anyway, I figure a blog is practically a living resume. It gives the personality that a resume doesn't and BONUS, it is fun! It is a place for me to post pictures and ideas and inspiration, things I see, and just random rants I have an urge to post.

Why the name The Blue Door?
So...it practically describes me and my style. Blue is my favorite color. My bedroom is decorated in blue (monochromatic scheme). There are so many ranges of blue and is very versatile. Blue makes my eyes pop, so I have been told. Oh and of course my favorite types of blue are navy and electric blue!
My style...how should I describe it? Well "casual bohemian elegance with a touch of country" will do it justice I suppose. Think Anthropologie. Think Domino magazine. Think Elle Decor. I like pretty things, and a random collection of them at that.
I have been raised out in the middle of nowhere and my grandparents live in a country style home, so my personal belief is that every southern girl should have at least one rooster/ chicken in her kitchen. I love lots of wood and apron front sinks. I like quilts and farm style florals and patterns (mismatchy-ness). That is where the country comes in.

I have always wanted to paint my door...future door blue. While I have expensive taste (why am I not a bazillionare...curses), I don't have a grandiose style so something like iron doors are not for me. That being said, I have nothing against them and enjoy the look they give off, I just wouldn't put it on my house. I figure as your mood changes and style does, you can just change the color of your door! Awesome and cheap. There is so much more personality there. Can you think of a better first impression? While you wait for someone to let you in after you have performed a not-so-secret knock and hope you didn't wake anyone when you rang the doorbell like five times in a row, you can get to know who they are by judging the color of the door. (haha, so unless you are doing it symbolically, you still should never judge a book its cover. BUT come on...we all know that if the cover is ugly, you aren't going to read it.

This door that I have been in love with ever since I saw it in Domino is a prime example.

This is an old blue door in Greece. Blue and vintage, it doesn't get much better than that.

I had never thought to put iron in my blue door, but I kinda like it!

I love everything about this one! EVERYTHING.

  1. I'm glad to really know you like quilts. I better get to work.

I'll be interested to see whether the color ever changes. I like blue, too.
