moved!

I moved my blog to wordpress. This one will still be here, but this is the last post here. I went to BlogShop with Bri Emery and Angela Kohler in San Francisco where I learned to pimp my blog. Go check it out here
Also, I tried to hook up everyone's email like they are to this one...but I kinda can't figure it out so I need to look into it. So bookmark it or put an icon on your computer. I am sure I am just talking to my parents...and Emily. haha.
So go check out my new blog!

welcome to the world of _____________!

I just have a few things to say about you Berkeley
Everyone in my family would probably fill the blank in with a different word.
I might say fun/weird. I love it so far, but I don't think I could ever live here because of Whole Foods.
There are no ziploc baggies, diet coke, or GOLDFISH! I am going to have to use one of those bags that goes in the ice bin at a hotel to carry my organic pretzels for blogshop...I'm a snacker.

The shingle style houses here are super cute! Some of them have Arts & Crafts style doors, which I am not a huge fan of, but oh well.
I have seen some fun stores in passing: Gelato, KCC modern furniture, and J Crew!

This cloud of fog that hangs over the mountains is slightly eerie, but super cool! It is crazy how fast it comes in.

No u-turns?

Tomorrow we are spending the day in San Francisco!! We have a night tour at Alcatraz, so that is exciting.
One other thing...the temperature here is half of what it is at home and I am COLD!

Can't wait to go sightseeing and learn some PhotoShop :)

packing!

Cruise on Sunday!!
Guess who is packing. I really hope all my toiletries and books will fit on top of my clothes...or else I may look like this.
First of all, my clothes don't look that fun when they spill out, and two, I want that suitcase. Her clothes are cute too. Maybe one day I will be able to afford Louis Vuitton luggage...but then I may not trust it through baggage claim or if it was rainy. Did you ever watch the movie Leap Year? "Throw it in the wash, it'll be grand!" (all in Irish accent). I don't know about you, but I can hear an Irish accent in my head and the second I try to say it out loud, I sound like a complete baboon.
I always procrastinate when I pack, and I make lists. Overall, it drives me nutty. I really don't like it. I suppose my motivation is a week long cruise. Wish I was getting away from the heat, but supposedly it could be hotter than it is here (which is saying a lot since it was 108 this afternoon). Yay for tanning and sunscreen. I need to put sunglasses on my list.

Another Louis Vuitton bag!
I just wanted to point out the graphic pop from the orange and blue and clean lines!
LOVE.

Power.

Power. One word. The perfect combination of temperature, winds, weather, build, stamina, muscle, speed...
The ability to be gentle, unpredictable, ever changing, wondrous, magnificent, unbelievable, believable...
What is power? Power is out of this world given to this world as a gift. A reflection of our creator, we are a living canvas, and power is our glimpse of what is real.
Power blows our minds. At least it does to mine.
 Everyday...everywhere.
16'2 hands, 1200 pounds. Secretariat. In 1973 took the first Triple Crown title in 25 years finishing 1.5 miles in just 2:25 minutes with a lead of 31 lengths. He is known as a "tremendous machine!"
The Niagara falls send a some estimated 600,000 gallons of water over the 170ft drop every second.
After a star dies, it can be seen for billions of years.
The weather can save a crop or destroy a city.
Power is raw.
Power is beautiful in all its destruction.
In all its perfection.

I just bought a Wacom Tablet and I decided to play with it for a little bit. This is all I did though because I am neither refined in photoshop or on the tablet...but here y'all go!

yep!

Happy Fourth!!

I will beat the clock!! I have to, or else I have to change the title of this post.
Gotta love the holidays and family. Two of the best things by far. One other really great thing that is worth pointing out is our country...can I get an Amen?!

Alright well, for this fourth, I went to Troy. That's in Texas. Nice and small, nice and small. I shot some guns, now forgive me because I don't really know all the lingo, so guns is all I am going to say. It was experience. One I enjoyed more than expected. My favorite part by far was the shotgun. Everyone kept telling me to "...hold tight, the kick is strong, you don't want to take it to the face!!" So basically, I held on tight. I didn't want to choke on my teeth or anything overly dramatic like that. My cousin hung a skeet on a post. I hit it! It smashed. Then he started throwing them...needless to say, I didn't hit them, but I almost did. Time to practice. Apparently you don't have to be 21 to get a shotgun license. How 'bout that? A crazy interior designer with a shotgun license...maybe? Doesn't it just scream Texan.
I also shot a couple pistols and an assault rifle...I am not going to attempt at the technical names.

I hope everyone had a memorable Fourth!!
Today was a good day, but now I have to study.
I beat the clock...YES.

world of magazines

that's where I want to be. magazines. Rue? yes that would be magical.
I found these pics on Sea of Shoes and then played with them a bit. Not only do I probably own this many or more magazines (just not with this kind of diversity...because some of my faves are over $10 for one print) but ya. I'm kind of a big fan. a girl can dream right?

what a sight!

weird mood

I got in this weird mood last night and made this list of all the jobs that I wish I had and internships I wish I had the time and money for and then I went on this spree of online window shopping...primarily to the oh so lovely J. Crew. I stumbled upon these cropped trousers lined with italian wool.
the minnie pant.
so that little circle marker there...stole that idea from Design Love Fest...I was kind of seeing if I could figure it out. I did, it just took a while...which is kinda sad I guess.

Tear Book: Part Seven

Who ever said white = the fear of color/no style?

Tear Book: Part Six

Dear Jenna Lyons. Can I please have your house...and clothes? Actually, could I just pick at your brain like a science project? The End.

circus or chic?

I saw this fabric and I fell in love. I never thought I would like it, but I do! so I picked it up and then I found a brown and cream stripe and I like them together. I think the black print would look legit on a french style open arm chair, all fancy and stuff. Dark woods and gold. Dark walls and lots of accessories and wallpaper. Crazy and out there. lots of mixed patterns...that is what I see. so do you see chic, or am I insane for liking it and would it just be plain old circus. If so, you should probs let me know and I can chunk the stripe and find something else...but even if you hate it, I may still go with it because that is the definition of inspiration. not really, but finding a nothing fabric or thing that everyone else would likely overlook, and then you make it fabulous! That is inspiration.

I can also see it in a baby's room. I think I need to do a post about baby room colors because I have 2 really good ideas of what I want...say I ever get to that stage in my life (which I am not there), but whatever!

plastic or wire?

are you a plastic or a wire coat hanger?
I am a wire...for now. I recently have inherited a few plastic ones.

Happy April Fools!

No pranks here today, but my roommates did kidnap my poptarts this morning. I opened my pantry (a single kitchen cabinet) and 'twas empty!
Funny funny.

Anywho, one of the classes I am taking right now is called Interior Design Presentation or "ID Pres." The project I am working on now, is a rendering of 3 perspectives. What is a perspective you ask...a perspective is how you see the room within a 60 degree angle from where you are standing . We had to pull a picture out of a magazine or off the internet and then sketch/render it. Render is pretty much just a fancy word for coloring while including lighting and shadows. After that first perspective was complete, the rest of the assignment was to design 2 more rooms using the same architecture and furniture pieces while acheiving different styles. I have only finished the first 2, but I was surprised how well they turned out, hence me sharing them.
this was the original picture I chose to copy. {Rue}

This is mine. My favorite parts were: the yellow chair, the knick knacks on the shelves, and a tie between the mannequin, floor, and curtains.

This is the first of my personal designs. I was going for a bohemian-indie mod thing. I guess the right word might just be odd.

For my last perspective that I am in the process of drawing up, I am pushing for a hollywood regency with a flair kind of style. When I finish it I will post it.
Also in another one of my classes, I had to make a concept baord inspired by Stella McCartney and her designs. I am also really happy how that one turned out, sooo I might post that one too.

Hopefully, posting some of my projects will help me personalize my blog a little more so that it is not just
 another design blog.

POUF

2. A part of a garment, such as a dress, that is gathered into a puff.
3. A rounded ottoman.

There are many types of poufs, some include:

Hand knit woolen

Girly floral pouf from Modern Dose at a hefty $549

A pouf will keep a space less serious.

Tear Book: Part Five

Fashion collage!!
All about the sequins. A sequin shirt is a great and easy way to dress up a pair of denim shorts, just add a simple pair of sandals or solid ballet flats. No accessories needed unless you have a cute barrette or flower/bow for your hair. On the other hand, glitter makes a wonderful statement accessory whether it be on your nails or on your shoes.

This same principle applies to decorating. You wouldn't want to have a sequined couch with gold flashy pillows and shimmery curtains with bold colored walls. Whoa buddy, chill out. Instead try glittery pillows with pale pinks and creams and grays. Dark neutrals would work too if you wanted to go for a more dark and sultry and sexy room. Also, don't be afraid to pair sequins with pattern...just make sure you don't go overboard if there is already a significant amount of sheen, glitter, or shimmer. If you haven't heard of quartz paint you should look into it. Glittery paint. Accent wall?

Tear Book: Part Four

I love incorporating old things into a new interior...I guess you could say I am kind of sentimental that way. I like when things have been used and broken in.
And I love old houses no matter the amount of problems that come with them!

BEACH!!

In honor of spring break.
I am going to Destin for the first time ever!!
So this is a post full of awesome beach inspired interiors from various places that I either love or would use, say I lived on the beach.

I love Galveston, but it is so comforting when you can actually see your feet! I cannot hardly wait!

Normally I wouldn't like a modern beach house, but can you imagine having all these windows and porches??

This is a lake, not a beach, but who cares.

BAM!!

Tear Book: Part Three

These are tears from Ellen Pompeo's home in Elle Decor. Love the Spanish influence.

If you are unaware of FLAIR pens, you need to familiarize yourself. I am not saying that because I use them that you must therefore use them as well. I mean granted if I was Jenna Lyons, or Kelly Wearstler, or Zooey Deschanel telling you to use FLAIR pens, then you probably would, but no worries...you can chill in whatever rut you have yourself stuck in.
